Citizens for Property Rights (CPR) is an
association of voters from varied backgrounds, united to preserve
constitutional rights stated and implied by the U.S. Constitution,
Bill of Rights, as well as those of common sense and conscience.
Organized first in Marshall County, Alabama as a reaction to local
County government intrusion upon and denial of such basic rights, such
as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, CPR’s mission is to
oppose unwanted and excessive governmental interference with privacy
and property ownership rights not supported by the vast majority of
citizens. Additionally, we chose to resist re-zoning attempts made in
favor of "increasing the tax base."
The initial motivation for organizing and cooperating with like-minded
citizens has been the intolerable “Home Rule” legislation that was
passed by Alabama voters as a result of its proponents, Alabama County
Commissioners Association, concealing their real purpose: that of
giving certain officers on the public payroll power over the private
property lives and livelihoods of others for the expressed purpose of
more government control of unincorporated areas.
Ordinances written and passed by County Commissions are being
enforced, and are financed by fines levied upon the victims. In the
vast majority of “violations” of such local laws, there is no proof of
general health and safety danger, which has been used as an excuse to
issue citations to citizens.
CPR members and affiliated groups are determined to oppose the loss of
property and other personal inalienable rights that are granted to us
first by common law and secondarily by the Constitution of the United
States.
